I Heart Brains

I want this necklace so bad. It’s from Beatblack on etsy.

I don’t know why but I HAVE to own it. I could probably make one myself seeing as it’s made of clay, but I think buying it would be much simpler.

Does anyone else tend to find things for themselves while Christmas shopping? Oops...

Freggin Brilliant

I LOVE Banksy. He is a British graffiti artist. His messages are usually anti-war, anti-capitalist or anti-establishment. He is pretty much just kick asstic. (This happened in 2006 but I just learned about it. I thought it was brilliant and wanted to share.)

Banksy replaced Hilton's CD with his own remixes and given them titles such as Why am I Famous?, What Have I Done? and What Am I For?

He has also changed pictures of her on the CD sleeve to show the US socialite topless and with a dog's head.

A spokeswoman for Banksy said he had doctored 500 copies of her debut album Paris in 48 record shops across the UK.

She told the BBC News website: "He switched the CDs in store, so he took the old ones out and put his version in." But he left the original barcode so people could buy the CD without realizing it had been interfered with.

My favorite part of this whole thing, "No customers had complained or returned a doctored version." HA!

I have TONS of picture to share but until then, his website is on the right. Check it out...

Craft gift for Christmas

I have been completely obsessed with crafts the last few days. I am trying to think of some simple gifts to make Holden’s great grandparents since we will get to see them this Christmas. (We are really bad about sending pictures.)

I am leaning towards making this mini accordion book for the Stevens. It is super adorable and I can bust it out in a few hours.

I will probably make mine larger using full 12 by 12 scrapbook paper though.

I found directions here.

I actually sold an effing painting!!!

I am so happy right now it’s orgasmic. Seriously, I never truly thought I would sell anything and the feeling is worth the trouble.

I wish I could bottle this feeling and sell it to upper class suburban teenagers. I’d be rich in a day.

This is the one I sold. Even if I never sell another painting, I feel like I finally accomplished something.

Great Deals

Most people don’t know that I am super cheap (…ok, I don’t like the way that sounds. Thrifty is a much better way to put it.) I LOVE LOVE LOVE shopping but I refuse to spend too much and always buy things on sale. In fact, I have a really hard time paying full price for anything and have no problem waiting a year for something just to save money. It seems I am really lucky though, since the clothes and shoes I like the most always end up on clearance. (I try not to think too hard about what that says about my taste.) Besides clothing, my favorite things to buy are household items. I am a sucker for furniture, kitchen gadgets, textiles, and odd decorations. I like to own things that you’re not going to find in every house you visit.

On my quest of owning more crap then necessary, I found this totally awesome website called GreenerGrassDesign. All the items they feature are really funky (in that hand made retro way). I also love sites that offer price based shopping. Here are some of the things I love so far:

SUCK UK CALENDAR TAPE BY LABORATORIUM. Multi-functional sticky tape that works as a calendar, diary, organizer & planner. As well as being pretty useful packaging tape! For 12 bucks I just can’t pass it up.

SUCK UK ORIGAMI STICKY NOTES. Re-cycle your old sticky notes and turn them in to fun 3D models! Each pad has instructions for 10 different shapes, including: pig; penguin; boat; crane; butterfly; squirrel; lily and water bomb. Only $5.

FROZEN SMILES by Jason Amendolara. All of a sudden, dentures aren’t just for Grandpa anymore! Freeze up a batch of Frozen Smiles and drop them into any glass. Frozen Smiles is made from soft, food-safe synthetic rubber. Ok, this is just ridiculous but it will make the perfect gift for my boyfriend’s goofy little brother, $7.

INTERNATIONAL ARRIVALS- EMMA FILE FOLDER Set of 6. What more needs to be said? These are just gorgeous. 6 for 10 dollars.

GOOD CHEMISTRY SALT & PEPPER SHAKERS. This clever porcelain salt & pepper set reduces our favorite condiments to their elemental essentials. Must be the nerd in me, but I HAVE to have these, $16.

So there are some of my favorites. I wanted almost every item in the office section. Check it out.

To Paint or Not to Paint

I am totally down right now. I just completely ruined another painting I loved. I know it happens and a lot of good things can come out of mistakes, but it is hard to see that right now. (Sometimes you can’t help feeling a certain way, even if your brain knows better.)

Moments like this make me wonder why I even do it. The whole reason I started painting was because I just felt like I had to, but why do I continue to do it? Even though I have gotten better in the last year, I know I still have a long way to go. I keep telling myself that I don’t want to show anyone until I get a good size collection but my heart knows better; I’m scared. I don’t want to be rejected and have all my doubts voiced by someone else.

I just don’t know.

At least the panel I ruined was small and easy to replace. I had drawn the peace sign in sharpie so it will only take me a few minutes to redo. I also wasn’t completely happy with the shade of yellow I had chosen so I will probably change that. (Ahhh….is that the infamous silver lining coming out to play?)

I also just finished this one. I am not too sure about it right now but we’ll see what happens. (I can be really fickle.)

Sugar High

So Halloween is officially over. Not that I didn’t expect you to know that, but it still kind of makes me sad. I am making sure I take the time to put everything away properly today since I actually made some of the decorations myself.

My favorite decoration is this egg sack looking thing. I got the idea out of a Martha Stewart magazine and I love they way it came out. (Yeah, I was totally shocked too. Her ideas are totally spiffy but usually turn out horribly. At least for me. )

Holden would NOT go trick or treating though. In fact, he was scared of his costume and would run from the room anytime I pulled it out. I can only hope that by next year he is a lot more willing and the costume will still fit. Though there is still no shortage of candy at my house since I had my friends bring a bag of candy each. At the time it sounded like a good idea, but now the house is overflowing with it. I also made cookies that no one ate. That’s right, NO ONE ate them. (WTF?) They are delicious and totally festive snicker doodles dipped in white chocolate.

Overall the night was good. What better way is there to spend a sugar high then with good friends and good times?

Can you spell R.E.T.A.R.D....?

Right off the bat I have to say I am seriously pissed at myself. I painted a picture I seriously loved and it was pointed out to me by someone who wanted to show off their total awesome spelling skills (jerk) that I fudged up a few things. Ok…ok, I’ll admit I was actually glad this happened with friends and not strangers. Even though I was embarrassed I would have been MORTIFIED if it was with someone who didn’t know I am actually NOT an idiot.

Most of the time.

I spelt “afraid” wrong, twice actually so at least I’m consistent, and then I left out the “e” in “falsehood.” Now that one was a total fluke because of the way I had to keep using the same letters over and over. Needless to say, I made the whole thing twice as hard as it should have been and then dropped the ball. I just can’t understand what I was thinking because it is so obviously wrong when you look at closely.

Am I going to let this get me down? Of course not. Ok, well maybe a little. I just have to keep reminding myself that it happens to even the best of us (obviously). I could have fixed the spelling mistake but there is no way I can add an extra letter in so I am going to have to just cover it up. Fortunately, I have been on a craze and have the perfect idea already lined up. I have also decided to redo the original one. I’m not sure when, but I really liked it and think it’s worth the effort.

But at least this one came out fine.

I can’t help but wonder why I wanted to admit this to everyone, but it is kind of freeing to tell the world “Yup, I fucked up” and then shrug of the self criticism.
